Recently my team (Well Bart my assistant and I) went to Abington Park museum here in Northampton to photograph a lovely group of ladies in vintage attire. The theme was loosely based on the history of Northampton. Whilst it might have been easier to hire in professional pinup models etc, I wanted people who actually relish the vintage life (not values), support the local area and bring their personalities with them. Shirley was my key contact for the group. She is a superb character and honestly was invaluable for organising the ladies. Howard and Wendy at the museum couldnt be anymore accommodating even if they tried.

Here is the behind the scenes video for you

The images were shot on a range of lenses: 85m, 24-70 and my Lensbaby Velvet 56. I am a Lensbaby Ambassador so I do like to break the lenses out to use whenever I can. This lens from them gives a softness with movement to the edges of the frame.

The choice of lighting was two large Godox umbrella softboxes and a reflector where needed. This whole system is fairly portable though I think I will invest in some battery pack strobes when I upgrade next to cut down on the wires and extension leads. This kit is often my ‘go-to’ kit when out on location. It is good value for money but lightweight unlike my usual studio portrait lighting setup.

The group shots took a little time to edit as I had to layer images as each model needed to be photographed separately to ensure even lighting.
