/  Photography   /  Client Shoot – Editing Wedding Photography

Every now and again I see photographs crop up where a self professed professional photographer has taken them. Often this is wedding photography and the photographer perhaps hasnt been paying as much attention as they should have been. The resulting images can often lead the clients to be disappointed and upset. Choosing your wedding photographer is very important and just because they are cheap does not mean they are the best option.

Jodie is past client of mine. She came for a boudoir shoot sometime ago as a present for her husband Paul. They have been married sometime but sadly they havent had their wedding photos back in their edited form. The family member who had taken them, thankfully doesnt fall into the aforementioned unprofessional professional but the images werent edited ready for printing. So Jodie, knowing my own photography thought she would ask if I could edit them for her.

Permission sought and granted from the original photographer (didnt want any copyright infringement notices), I spent a quite a bit of time, tidying up the images and generally saving them from their raw status to a more stylish image. It was a challenge as the images werent as hi-res/RAW as I would have liked plus the white balance was off. Something the original photographer could fix but I was working with pretty low level jpegs so had to use a few tricks to get the exposure as best I could.

The images were mainly documentary style, something I am familiar with as I tend to do this for my own wedding photography. Sadly however the overblown parts and thus loss of detailing meant I had to work hard on some to revive them to a decent level. Thankfully Jodie loved the old glamour of black and white images which makes saving them a lot easier. Plus black and white images are timeless and really played into her vintage wedding theme. I love her maternity wedding dress.

The blown out elements were near impossible to mend but I did recover a lot of the detail.

Jodie messaged me after I sent her the newly edited images:

Super Khandie saves the day! I had been waiting for my wedding pictures for a very long time to be sent to me from the photographer (hubby’s Uncle’s partner), so I asked Khandie to edit a few for us instead. And in super fast time I got them back! They are amazing. She did a brilliant job on them. I love them and she saved what was tainting an otherwise beautiful event. Thank you so much.

I think I will take that as a job well done.

Remember to get what you want from your wedding photographer in writing and just because they are a family member or cheap doesnt mean it will be done to the standards you would like.
