Honoured to Win the BBC Radio Northampton Make A Difference Award 2024 for My Work in Photography
I am deeply humbled to share that I’ve been awarded the BBC Radio Northampton Make A Difference Award 2024 for my work in photography. This recognition holds immense meaning for me, as it reflects two areas of my life that are close to my heart: my role as a teacher at Headway Northampton and my volunteer work with Remember My Baby.
Photography as a Tool for Empowerment at Headway Northampton
At Headway Northampton, I until recently taught photography to adults with traumatic brain injuries. My mission was to make photography accessible to everyone, no matter their ability. Through adaptable lessons, I’ve seen how photography can unlock creativity and help individuals express themselves in ways they never thought possible. This work has been incredibly rewarding, and winning this award is a testament to the impact that accessible art can have.
Remember My Baby: A Role That Humbles Me Every Day
In addition to my work at Headway, I also volunteer with Remember My Baby, an organisation that provides remembrance photography for families who experience the heartbreaking loss of a baby. This work is sensitive, and each session is handled with the utmost care, compassion, and respect. I consider it a privilege to help families in their most difficult moments, capturing the love and bond they will always hold onto. It’s a deeply emotional responsibility, but I am honoured to be able to provide these treasured memories.
Why This Award Means So Much
Winning the BBC Radio Northampton Make A Difference Award for these two aspects of my work feels incredibly special. Whether I’m teaching photography to those overcoming physical challenges or providing comfort to families through remembrance photography, the common thread is the power of photography to tell stories, heal, and connect us all.
Bringing My Work and Vision to a Wider Audience
I’m passionate about sharing the lessons I’ve learned through these experiences with broader audiences. For event producers looking for a speaker, I offer a unique perspective on photography’s ability to adapt, heal, and empower. My talks and workshops focus on creating inclusive opportunities for all, using photography as a tool for both self-expression and connection.
Looking Forward: More Work to Be Done
While this award is a moment of deep pride, it also inspires me to continue expanding my work. I hope to reach new communities and platforms where photography can be used to bring people together, uplift those in need, and provide healing in difficult times.
If you’re looking for a speaker or collaborator with real-world experience, empathy, and a passion for inclusive photography, I’d love to connect.
