So often portraits are quite light (sometimes known as High Key…its a bit more technical than that but still) but I love playing with shadow and sometimes I shoot low key portraits. Lee Blackwell is a professional skateboarder with a flair for the dramatic in his own tastes so it made sense to ask him to shoot some low key portrait photography.
Shooting in my Northampton photo studio, we created some fabulous images that demonstrated his physical fitness, some of his personality and a dash of drama. Low key portrait photography needn’t be all sinister but for this I wanted to convey the recent hardships Lee has experienced. He wont mind me saying but he was fresh from a memorial skate jam for his friend, not long out of serious surgery and about to really step up his skating game.
