Who doesnt love a good gangster movie? We do here at Khandie Photography HQ. So much so in fact, we decided to use those movies as inspiration for a shoot. Think 60s East End gangster and you are almost there. Managing to find a suitable model was easy, I simply asked Simon and thankfully he said yes. Boom one hell of a mens fashion and portrait session was underway. We had suits a plenty, amazing accessories and even managed to get some clobber from a local mod clothing shop http://www.souljunctionclothingltd.co.uk/ I do recommend you check them out.
The sun was super high and rather than shy away from the dreaded midday light and her harsh shadows, I sort of embraced it. The images were meant to have a late 60s filmic quality and this lighting just seemed to work. Mens fashion shoots are something I love to do but dont get to play around as much with. Thankfully Simon was a more than willing model, so with my trusty assistant CJ we headed out into the sunshine to find locations.
It helps if your model knows how to wear a suit…you may laugh but you really do need good posture to make a suit look great. I am so obsessed with suits and generally tailoring looking good I even have a Pinterest board about it all… I am serious https://uk.pinterest.com/khandiekhisses/mens-tailoring/
I decided to really test myself and rather than take all my lens, limit myself to only one: 35mm Nikon 1.8. A good solid prime. No reflector either. Meaning I had to REALLY concerntrate on lighting shadows and so much more. It was a challenge but I rather enjoyed it. Good to stretch yourself every once in a while.
