Promo Shoot – Lensbaby Twist 60 & Nikon 35mm 1.4
Holy wowzer! Ok so I recently went to The Photography Show at the NEC Birmingham and acquired a new Lensbaby Twist 60mm lens. Big love to the Lensbaby team. Superb customer service (here’s looking at you Mishalla) and I had to use it. Luckily I had an amazing promo shoot organised at my studio the next day with Mike ‘Loco’ Mason. Mike is a pro wrestler and a HEMA participate. HEMA is Historical European Martial Arts and its brutal. Mike assures me it is fun…I mean he gets to dress up as a Viking a wield axes so I has to be I guess.
We shot our promo shoot in my Northampton studio using the new Lensbaby and my 35mm 1.4 lens. Now this Lensbaby offers a 60mm focal length and the blur is all swirly twirly thus providing a somewhat action feel and central focusing naturally for the eye. This type of lens really shows its full potential in a more busy background but I wanted to see if it was suitable as a studio lens choice.
Enjoy the images below from the shoot.
Some portraits were also shot to create texture in camera, not as part of PhotoShop as you will see in this video of the behind the scenes!
Lighting was pretty much was a singular light with added reflector. Godox is the lighting brand (I know so many of you have asked me in the past) I am slowly converting to Godox after Bowens went bust. Pixapro is very similar too (hint hint). My Bowens is still going strong but they are so heavy when compared to the likes of Pixapro and Godox.
