Stock Photos Dont Cut It With Your Customers – Better Your Business
Visual content is essential to have your business stand out. Be it window washing or criminal law, you got to stand out and one of the ways to do it is with your visual content (photography) on your social media and website. Potential clients instantly dismiss sites when there are poor or little imagery. Given that most people use their mobile devices to access online information, vast expanses of text are not in any way appealing. This is why more and more businesses are realising that it is imagery that sells you, your product and services. Humanising your brand is one of the most effective ways to appeal to your client base. People want to connect with a brand. So it is time to invest and invest well.
Stock photography is very impersonal and you run the high risk that your competition may already be using the same image. Not the best impression to give. Hiring a photographer is a short term cost to your business with far reaching long term benefits. You can highlight your personal message, members of your team and convey more to your clients with custom imagery than static generic one size fits all stock photography. You dont treat your clients like that arent individuals, so dont give the impression you do.
Some examples for you
Client: Avia Speed Shop
Background: A local garage in Bridgend. Family run business. Part of Investors in People scheme. Numerous awards within their community and Wales, as well as the whole of the UK.
We were hired by Hayley who runs the garage who wanted imagery that showed the garage and their work but also keen to highlight their ethics and business practises. The images are to be used across their social media but also on the website.
By understand what our client needed we were able to provide her with a rarity of images that work singularly but also cohesively together to story tell. People connect with faces, a lack of face or features switch them off so we offer images that had mostly people within them but also ones that were iconic to what they were that make good images for quote overlays or details.
Get The Most Out Of Your Content
Top tips to help you get better images for your business:
- Story tell your business. Each image should tell a part of your business. Be it the teacups being painting, the tyres being changed or the plants being potted. Think what your business is about.
- Have a mix of portrait and landscape orientation images these helps with layouts.
- Wide shots that show surroundings are great to help show what is going on.
- Close portraits are great at humanising your business.
- Dont simply pose your team. Have them working. Too posed is very obvious.
- Timing. Start of the day is often very busy in most businesses so perhaps not the most ideal time to schedule the session. End of the day is quieter and staff are perhaps less engaged. Find the happy medium.
- Invest in a good photographer. Good doesnt mean cheap or expensive. It is a photographer who’s work impresses you and can deliver the images you want. Nothing too over exposed, too cheesy edited or weird filters.
- Brief all your team. No one likes to be thrown into a photograph without knowledge.
- Tidy up. Sort of. Dont make it too sterile unless you work in a field where that is essential but tidy away rubbish and such like. People want to see it worked in/lived in.
- Styling. Think about uniforms or outfits. Dont forget to freshly press uniforms or wear something you are comfortable in.
